Even in “normal” circumstances, curating a season is a bit like putting together a giant puzzle. Each individual element is designed to serve a larger vision, and no single piece can be considered without examining the whole. This process is always an inspiring and rewarding challenge.
In 2020, artistic planning took on new layers of meaning as we faced daunting challenges in navigating the coronavirus and its impact on presenting live performances. Fittingly, this season honors our 50+ year history as a leading presenter of classical music, dance, and jazz, while at the same time reflecting our growth and our deepened responsibility to the San Diego community.
Classical music will always be the core—the heart—of La Jolla Music Society’s programming, but as our organization has evolved with the opening of our new home, The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, we must seize the opportunity to showcase the unbelievable talents of artists in different genres from around the globe. We are steadfastly committed to artistic excellence, to creating engaging programs and initiatives designed to expand the audiences we serve, and to delivering memorable live performances in a safe and welcoming space. I hope you’ll see all this and more in the season ahead!
