LJMS Announces Todd Schultz as President and CEO

SAN DIEGO, CA—La Jolla Music Society (LJMS) Board of Directors announced today the appointment of Todd Schultz as President and CEO of La Jolla Music Society, effective January 4, 2021.

The hiring of Todd Schultz is the capstone to a strong two-year run for LJMS that included the opening of The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center; a record-setting SummerFest 2019; the 2020 Winter Season, which was very successful pre-pandemic; and the Reimagined SummerFest 2020, which set a standard for multi-camera live-streamed concerts using the Conrad’s built-in state-of-the-art technology.

“The Board of Directors and I are delighted that Todd Schultz will be joining us at the start of 2021 as President and CEO of La Jolla Music Society,” said Board Chair Steve Baum. “Todd is a San Diegan and has broad experience in the arts in our community. He is an accomplished fundraiser and understands the importance of leadership. Todd shares our mission to make the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center world renowned for music and dance. He will be joining an experienced senior staff and will be fully supported by the Board of Directors and many of our patrons who know him well. We are all eager to get to work.”

With 31 years of experience in the performing arts sector, Mr. Schultz has split that time evenly between marketing and development, which gives him the skill set necessary to help LJMS raise funds, build audiences, and advance the overall institutional mission and strategic plan. His most recent experience was as the Senior Vice President of Development for the McCallum Theatre. Mr. Schultz also spent four years as the Vice President of Institutional Advancement for the San Diego Symphony, eleven years as the Director of Development for The Old Globe, and six years as the Director of Marketing and Public Relations at the San Diego Opera.

In accepting the appointment, Mr. Schultz said, “For years, La Jolla Music Society has been a valuable asset for the San Diego community and, for more than 20 years, its performances have been an important part of my own life. I am deeply honored to join the organization and look forward to working with the Board, Leah, Inon, and the entire staff. LJMS has grown and developed tremendously in recent years, most importantly with the opening of the new Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, and the near and long-term potential for the organization is unlimited. My enjoyment in connecting people in our community with music and the arts is what has driven me forward every day of my career, and I am eager to work with the Board and my new colleagues at La Jolla Music Society to make music and dance accessible to every facet of the San Diego community.”

LJMS Artistic Director, Leah Rosenthal, said the following: “Todd’s passion for the arts, combined with his stellar reputation in the industry, and deep personal connection with the San Diego community make him the perfect person to advance our mission. With Todd at the helm, the future of La Jolla Music Society is incredibly bright.
