Each summer, La Jolla Music Society’s Music Director invites students from the world’s leading musical conservatories and pre-formed string quartets and piano trios to participate in the Fellowship Artist Program. As part of this highly competitive program, selected young musicians receive a multitude of performance opportunities throughout SummerFest, daily coaching sessions led by world-class chamber musicians, and tickets to every performance. The program focuses on developing the skills of interpretation, communication and performance required in chamber music. In addition to joining senior festival musicians on stage for main series concerts and performing on several Musical Preludes, the Fellowship Artists are given the amazing opportunity to work one-on-one with master teachers in public Coaching Workshops held throughout the festival. These Workshops allow the ensembles to fine-tune the pieces for their Musical Preludes for upcoming competitions, or feature an emphasis on specific periods or performance techniques. Fellowship Artist alumni have won internationally renowned competitions such as Fischoff and Banff, launched successful careers, and have returned to the festival as senior musicians.
