“I have played the full orchestral version [of Mahler’s 4th Symphony] several times, but having the chance to play it in this intimate setting with such amazing colleagues was incredibly fulfilling and rewarding.” – Erin Keefe
Leah Rosenthal, Artistic Director
“For the the Miró Quartet, our first time playing as a quartet in concert on your new stage in the brand new hall at the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center will be a memory that we treasure for a lifetime! Add to that the fact that it was two hours of all Beethoven made this evening tremendously special for us. Such an honor to share this with your amazing audience at Summerfest!”
– John Largess, Miró Quartet
Inon Barnatan, SummerFest Music Director (2019-)
“On opening weekend we performed a chamber ensemble version of one of Mahler’s most beautiful and intimate symphonies, his 4th symphony. Led by one of the world’s most renowned conductors, Osmo Vanska, it was a rare opportunity to hear this masterwork played by an all-star ensemble led by Erin Keefe, and including the incredible soprano Susanna Phillips. I doubt I’ll hear it performed better.” Inon Barnatan, SummerFest Music Director.

“The event that launched the Synergy Series was a dream come true for me- performing with one of the greatest jazz singers of our day, Cecile McLorin Salvant, as well as one of the top jazz pianists in the world, Aaron Diehl.
The idea for the evening, which blurred the lines between Jazz and Classical music, originated with a Nina Simone Recording I heard once, in which she improvised in the style of Bach in the middle of the song Love Me Or Leave Me. For the final song of our set that evening we performed our own version of the song, in which I got to improvise on stage for the first time in my life, alongside Aaron Diehl- who is a master of improvisation. A thrilling experience!”
– Inon Barnatan, SummerFest Music Director.
