Now in it’s 8th year, “Heart of a Child” has become the premier showcase of young musical talent in San Diego. This benefit concert features a diverse array of talented vocalists and instrumentalists performing a variety of musical genres with acts both large and small. Performers have appeared on network television, played Carnegie Hall and won national competitions. You won’t want to miss this once-a-year musical celebration. All proceeds of the concert go to support Resounding Joy’s Ariana Miller Music with Heart Program providing no-cost music therapy to patients at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego.

The Second Annual Chinese Dance Gala will bring together eight dance companies including San Diego Ballet and Ling’s Dance Academy from Los Angeles. Additionally, the Bruce Li Dance Company and After School Learning Tree will delight audiences with Chinese Classical dance, featuring a variety of traditional dances and beautiful, colorful costumes. Adding a modern component, the Michelle Liu Pop Music Studio will entertain with contemporary and creative hip hop and break dancing.

The US premiere of “12 Dancing Princesses” presented by Ballet Institute of San Diego follows the famous Brother Grim’s story accompanied by P.I. Tchaikovsky’s music: nobody can repress the girls’ desire for beauty and dance. At the Ballet Institute we believe it is of utmost importance to teach our students classical values and art appreciation, and to embrace their creativity. The magic dance world attracts everyone looking for elegance, passion and the secrets of music.

Grammy Award nominated vocalist Jazzmeia Horn has a name that speaks for itself, capturing her very essence. Since winning the Thelonious Monk Competition in 2015, Jazzmeia’s star has continued to rise, along with her reputation as an artist with an assured maturity and a vocal confidence far beyond her years. JazzTimes exclaims that Jazzmeia’s “vivacity, imagination, gutsiness and sociopolitical savvy echo the likes of Carter and Abbey Lincoln. Simply put, she is as exciting a discovery as Cécile McLorin Salvant or Gregory Porter.” Her debut album, A Social Call, was released on Concord’s Prestige label to overwhelming acclaim from critics and fans alike, earning Jazzmeia her first Grammy Award nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Great story-telling, an inspired message, fluid vocals, scat-singing, and spirited group performances – A Social Call features all one would hope to hear from a veteran vocalist of longstanding reputation. As such, the album serves as a clarion call, proudly announcing the arrival of a young, confident musical talent with a bright future ahead of her, blessed with a name that carries its own destiny.
