Camarada pays tribute to the music of the great Astor Piazzolla, who referred to his music as Nuevo tango, an avant-garde version of Buenos Aires’ most popular dance form. Piazzolla fused classical, jazz, and tango into a distinctive musical idiom that has become his own genre. Join us for this performance of Piazzolla’s most celebrated works: The Four Seasons of Tango and a premiere of the instrumental suite Maria de Buenos Aires, both arranged by Grammy-award winning tango master, Raul Jaurena.

The event will showcase the finest young student artists in music, dance, and theater from the San Diego Unified School District performing short excerpts in the Baker Baum Concert Hall. The evening will also honor University of California San Diego Chancellor Pradeep Khosla for his generous support in helping establish the VAPA Foundation.

The evening will begin with cocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres in the JAI and QRT.yrd, followed by the program in the Baker Baum Concert Hall.

Proceeds from the benefit will support enhanced arts education programs for all students at SDUSD schools.

Now in it’s 9th year, “Heart of a Child” has become the premier showcase of young musical talent in San Diego. This benefit concert features a diverse array of talented vocalists and instrumentalists performing a variety of musical genres with acts both large and small. Performers have appeared on network television, played Carnegie Hall and won national competitions. You won’t want to miss this once a year musical celebration. All proceeds of the concert go to support Resounding Joy’s Ariana Miller Healing Notes Program, providing no-cost music therapy to patients at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego.

Heart of a Child is hosted by San Diego television personalities Pat Brown and Bill Griffith.
