SAN DIEGO, CA—La Jolla Music Society (LJMS) Board of Directors announced today the appointment of Susan T. Danis as President and CEO of La Jolla Music Society, effective October 1, 2018.
“With the opening of The Conrad just around the corner, this is a very exciting time for our organization,” said LJMS Board Chair, Katherine Chapin. “We are confident that Susan is the right person to build on our strong foundation and lead us into a dynamic future.“
Ms. Danis is currently the General Director and CEO of Florida Grand Opera (FGO) in Miami, and brings over 30 years of arts administration experience to her new position. While at FGO, she secured the largest gifts in the 75-year history of the company and initiated several new programs including the Made for Miami series, which presents operas relevant to the diverse communities of South Florida.
Prior to her six years at FGO, Ms. Danis was the Executive Director of Sarasota Opera for 13 years. She oversaw a $20 million renovation of their historic theater in 2008, which enabled the organization to expand its artistic offerings and increase its annual productions.
Ms. Danis also served for eight years as the General and Executive Director of the Lake George Opera Festival, now known as Opera Saratoga. During her tenure, she revitalized the financial operations, artistic and educational programs, and relocated the company to Saratoga Springs, New York.
LJMS will open its new concert hall, The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center (The Conrad), in April 2019. Located in downtown La Jolla, The Conrad is a 49,000-square foot-facility with a 513-seat concert hall, specially designed acoustics and architecture inspired by the surrounding coastal community.
“Becoming the President & CEO of La Jolla Music Society and leading one of Southern California’s most prestigious performing arts organizations is the fulfillment of a lifelong goal,” said Ms. Danis in accepting the appointment. “I am truly honored to be a part of the opening of The Conrad, and to work with the new SummerFest Music Director, Inon Barnatan. I will make it my mission to passionately preserve the highest artistic standards while imagining a new, bright future for LJMS.”
