How to Give
Making a gift to La Jolla Music Society involves some planning to maximize the impact of the contribution, both for La Jolla Music Society and for the donor, and is a rewarding way to keep music alive in our community. Gifts can be directed to support any of the following: the Artistic Programs of both the Winter Season and SummerFest, Education and Outreach, Community Music Center, Endowment Fund, or General Operations. La Jolla Music Society is a not-for-profit organization, classified under Internal Revenue Service code 501(c)3, with Federal Tax ID #23-7148171. Donations made to La Jolla Music Society are deductible to the full extent of the law. Names of donors of $250 or more, annually, will be acknowledged in our concert program, unless anonymity is requested.
There are several ways to make a contribution:
La Jolla Music Society welcomes multi-year gifts and pledges to all its campaigns and funds made with personal or business checks. Checks should be made payable to La Jolla Music Society and mailed to:
La Jolla Music Society ATTN: Development Department 7946 Ivanhoe Avenue, Suite 309 La Jolla, CA 92037
Checks are the preferred method of payment, as La Jolla Music Society does not then incur a 3% credit card processing expense. However, gifts made through Visa, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted. The best way to make a gift with a credit card is by contacting Ferdinand Gasang, Development Director, by phone at 858.459.3724, ext. 204.
Gifts of appreciated stock are a great alternative to donations by check or credit card. By transferring appreciated stock to a charity instead of directly selling it, the donor can take a charitable deduction for the full value of the asset and avoid capital gains tax. We recommend electronically transferring stock directly into our account at UBS Financial Services Inc. To make a gift of stock:
1. Contact your broker and instruct your agent to electronically transfer shares to La Jolla Music Society’s UBS Financial Services Inc. You will need to know the name of the stock and the number of shares. La Jolla Music Society has a “Letter of Authorization” which you may use to help facilitate the transaction with your agent.
2. Your broker/fiscal agent will need to contact La Jolla Music Society’s financial agent at UBS Financial Services Inc., Jeff Dunigan, at 858.551.9419. Your agent will need the following information:
Firm Name: UBS Financial Services Inc. DTC #: 0221 FBO: La Jolla Music Society Tax ID: 23-7148171, a 501(c)3 charitable organization Account #: VR15839
3. Your broker/fiscal agent should also notify Ferdinand Gasang, Development Director at 858.459.3724, ext. 204 or FGasang@LJMS.org, fax at 858.459.3728.
You may be eligible to double your gift through your employer’s matching gift program. Many companies match their employees’ and retirees’ donations to non-profit organizations. Matching dollars come from the companies’ funds, at no cost to you. Contact your company’s human resources department to find out whether they have a matching gift program. In most cases, all you need to do is complete a simple form.
