SOFIA HASHEMI-ASASI is a 10th grader and has been playing the violin since the age of five. She has performed locally and in summer music festivals in Portugal (2009) and Austria (2010-2013). She has participated in several local and regional competitions and was the first place winner in the California Young Artists Competition MusicFest (2006 and 2008), San Diego’s MTAC-VOCE Competition junior strings division (second place in 2007 and first place in 2008), was awarded honorable mention in MTAC’s Concerto Competition (2008 and 2009), and was a participant of California State Competition under the American Strings Teachers’ Association in 2007. Sofia is currently a member of the San Diego Youth Symphony, Philharmonia, and Chamber Orchestras. She studies violin and chamber music with Professor János Négyesy.
Sofia has also studied the piano since the age of nine with Tatiana Stignev and has participated in the yearly National Piano Guild Auditions. She also received second place in the 2013 MTAC-Carmel Valley Concerto Competition, first place in the 2012 MTAC-Carmel Valley Sonata Competition, honorable mention in the 2012 MTAC-Carmel Valley Bach Competition, second place in the 2011 San Diego MTAC Sonata Competition, and honorable mention in the 2010 San Diego MTAC Bach Competition.
