Helen Han Xiao Lai, piano
Helen is from Shenzhen, China and has been playing the piano for nine years. She is a sophomore at Idyllwild Arts Academy studying with Nelms McKelvain. Helen won first prize in the ‘Qinxing Cup’ Piano Competition in China.
Andrew Yu-Ming Ma, violin
Andrew is from Taiwan and has been playing the violin since the age of five. He is currently a senior at Idyllwild Arts Academy, where he won first prize in the IAA Concerto Competition and performed the Tchaikovsky violin concerto with the IAA Orchestra in 2013. He was a semifinalist in the Cooper International Competition in the summer of 2013. Andrew studies with Todor Pelev.
Liliya Milcheva, violin
Liliya is from Bulgaria and has been playing the violin since the age of five. As a sophomore, this is her first year at Idyllwild Arts Academy, where she studies with Todor Pelev. She has won many awards at international and national competitions, including the Young Virtuosos Sofia and the Pancho Vladigerov competitions in Bulgaria.
Jason Sheng-Chieh Lan, viola
Jason is from Taiwan and has been playing the viola for seven years. He is currently in his junior year at Idyllwild Arts Academy, where he studies with Donald McInnes.
Hua Hwang, cello
Hua is from China and has played the cello for 10 years. This is his first year at Idyllwild Arts Academy studying with Yao Zhou. He has already won many national and international awards, including first prize in the Third National Aiqing Cup Cello Competition in China, gold medal in the junior division of the Solo Instrumental Games in the Guangdong Province, and the “Major Excellence Award” from the Central Conservatory of Music Middle School. Hua was awarded the “Open Division Award of Excellence” in the Alice & Eleonore Schoenfeld International String Competition and won third prize in the Chamber Music Division at the Central Conservatory of Music Middle School in Beijing.
