Marthe Grimsrud Husum was born in Tønsberg, Norway in 1991. At the age of seven she started taking violin lessons; it did not take long before she changed to viola.
She continued her studies in Norway with Professor Morten Carlsen and is now in Berlin with Professor Walter Küssner at Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler. A keen orchestral and chamber musician, she has played for such orchestras as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Oslo Philharmonic, and as an Academist in the Konzerthausorchester, Berlin. In the summer she has participated in the Verbier Festival Orchestra and the Orchestra Academy of Schleswig Holstein Musik festival among others.
She has also participated in masterclasses such as Prussia Cove and Encuentro de Musica y Academia de Santander with professors such as Nobuko Imai, Lars Anders Tomter and Thomas Riebl. Since 2008 she has been playing with the up and coming Norwegian chamber orchestra Ensemble Allegria, appearing on different festivals in Norway and Germany and is recording their second CD in August 2014.
This performance marks Marthe Husum’s La Jolla Music Society debut.
