Fiona Digney is an Australian-born percussionist, recently relocated from The Netherlands to San Diego. She holds performance and education degrees from Australia, a MA from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and is currently pursuing her doctoral degree at UCSD under the guidance of Prof. Steven Schick. Most recently, Fiona has enjoyed freelance theatre work in the Netherlands and Belgium (Diamantfabriek and Het Zuiderlijk Toneel) as well as London, England (Almeida Theatre). She has also had the pleasure of performing in Australia, China, Canada, Sweden, Mexico, and Belgium in various orchestral, percussion ensemble, theatrical, and new music settings. As an avid proponent of new music, Fiona has commissioned and/or premiered more than thirty new works for percussion and small ensemble, notably the European premiere of Anne Washburn’s post-electric play Mr. Burns in London and the world premiere of the new music opera Becoming the System by Petra Strahovnik in The Netherlands.
